I always like to pick up a few creepy books for this time of year- ones that will keep me up late, and give me the heebie jeebies. Just like my love for horror movies- good creepy books are the kind that tend to really suck me in and keep me binge-reading until I finish. I put together a list of a few creepy books that you can grab if you need a good scare this Halloween season.

I’ve read these books over the past couple of years, so I don’t remember exactly how they are all the way through- but I do know that all of them creeped me out enough to stand out amongst the hoards of books I read each year.

I read Dear Mr. M because I saw that it was recommended by Stephen King- and I mean, he is the King when it comes to giving me the creeps. It’s not really as ‘scary’ as it is a thriller. But, the books that could really happen are the ones that scare me the most. It had me guessing til the end, and that is saying something.

In a Dark, Dark Wood was a little suspense, peppered with that “whodunit’ air of mystery. It was confusing at parts, and made me angry at others- but it was another one that surprised me at the end.

The Grip of It is one of those just creepy crawly, gives you the heebie-jeebie, not sure you want to keep reading types of books. A little confusing, and I can’t say I loved the ending. But, still creepy enough to make the list.

What I liked about The House on Foster Hill is that it’s from Bethany House Publishers- whom you know I love. So, it’s a Christian Fiction book. So, no vulgarity or that sort of thing. But, it’s still a suspenseful thriller. So, if ‘scary books’ aren’t your normal thing, you may still enjoy this one.

I’ve always had a weird fascination and a little bit of a aversion to funeral homes. I mean, they are full of death, which is scary to pretty much everyone. The Undertaker’s Daughter is a non-fiction book about a girl who actually grew up in a funeral home. Back when undertakers were also ambulance drivers. If non-fiction is more your thing, I found this book pretty fascinating.
