Homeschooling Through the Holidays with BookShark – Mrs. Bishop

*I receive BookShark curriculum in exchange for sharing our Homeschool journey with you. All opinions are my own.*

Homeschooling through the Holidays can be tough! Life is busy. There are gatherings, volunteer opportunities, parties, and sometimes fitting in school can be tough. But we also don’t want to fall behind in our studies. That’s why I love the flexibility we have with BookShark!

With our 4-day a week First Grade curriculum, we can use our 5th day to volunteer, fit in worksheets, take music or sports lessons and we won’t miss out on any learning! We’re even going to go ahead and do school all this week, because we can get our main studies done and take off Thursday for the Thanksgiving festivities! But, we’ll still get all of our work done. Win-win!

If it were up to me- we’d take off all of December (which, no judgement- a LOT of homeschool families do.) But, I don’t want us to lose our momentum. So, we’ll be continuing our studies up until the week before Christmas.

And we’ll still be able to fit in all of the fun activities and parties we have planned!

BookShark’s curriculum has been perfect for our family. Especially this week. We’ve been BUSY to say the least. One day we had to run about a million errands. And we were able to do that- and do school in the afternoon that day, instead of the morning. And you know what? It was fun! Switching up from our normal routine made for an exciting adventure that day. Daddy even got to help with some Science and History projects this week- which he normally doesn’t get to do.

Because we get done with our studies in a fraction of the time that it would take a traditional school setting to accomplish- we get to spend more time together as a family. More time playing outside- weather permitting, and more time having fun! But, our little student is still learning SO much!

We’ve really been loving all of the amazing read-alouds this year that Reading with History has to offer. And my normally reluctant writer has been enjoying the Language Arts portion- even taking spelling tests each week!

Homeschooling through the Holidays can be easy.

So, don’t be afraid to try and homeschool through all of the Holiday craziness. With a flexible curriculum like BookShark– even the busiest schedules can be worked with. Even if you’re like us and  occasionally have to do your daily reading as a bedtime story. That’s okay!

Go ahead and sign up for that volunteer opportunity as a family. Take an extra dish to a Holiday party (cooking class makes for great lifeskills!). And spend as much time together as you can this Holiday season. Homeschooling through the Holidays doesn’t have to be crazy. Everything can be turned into a learning experience that will fit in perfectly with whatever age level curriculum you’re working with.
