Mommy Monday- Taking Care of Mommy (YOU) – Mrs. Bishop

mommon

Usually on Mommy Monday I like to share tips and tricks to make your life easier as a Mommy, for your kiddos…but this week I want to talk about taking care of yourself.

For the sake of your sanity, and the benefit of your children, remember to never neglect yourself. I know that’s easy to say, and harder to implement. But, keep in mind:

  • A well-rested Mommy will parent better.
  • A Mommy who takes the time for herself, will enjoy time spent with her child(ren) more
  • A well-fed Mommy will be less likely to snap at her child(ren) (and Husband!).
  • A happy Mommy is a better Mommy.

I see this often in my every day life, so I know that other Mom’s out there are going through the same struggles…Especially in the trenches of newborn-hood when you aren’t sleeping, or forgetting to feed yourself, because you spend 2/3 of your day feeding your baby.

Don’t neglect yourself.

Enlist help if you must; your significant other, family member, or friend.

Take a long hot shower, or soak in the tub.

Take a walk around your neighborhood…get outside.

Go to a coffee shop and savor your drink, and maybe a snack.

Sit down, and relax with a good book.

Go see a movie- just to let your mind focus on something else for awhile.

Go get a haircut or your nails done.

It IS NOT selfish. You are doing your family a favor by taking care of yourself. Your mental health will thank you!

I can not even tell you how revitalizing it is to go have dinner with some friends or to take a shopping trip without worrying about your little one. It makes me a better mom! And, it doesn’t hurt my little guy either, because he misses me when I’m gone, and it makes him much more excited to see me. Especially, as a stay at home Mom- he gets a little sick of me sometimes.

So, Mom’s of the world- give yourself a break, a moment to yourself, you deserve it. You are doing the most important work, my good friend always reminds me- holy work.
