Raise your hand if you desperately need a Girl’s Getaway! I’ll wait.
Getting away without the kids is HARD, y’all. Lining up schedules with your fellow Moms seems nearly impossible at times. But, occasionally the stars align, and you’re able to find a day or 2 to get away. If you’re able to do it- sneak away to Brown County.
The great thing about Brown County is that, for me and my fellow Hoosiers, it’s not far at all. And tucked inside Brown County you will find the cutest little town that you ever did see- full of shops, local artisans, wineries, eateries, and an endless amount of fun things to do with your girlfriends. It’s like stepping into a Hallmark movie, or Stars Hollow. You just have to see it to believe it.
My 2 oldest friends and I went this last weekend and we had an amazing weekend together. We stayed at the most adorable cottage in the nicest Inn I’ve ever set foot in. (More on that tomorrow!) We went to more wine tastings than I can count. We gorged ourselves on delicious food, coffee, and a craft cocktail to die for.
We stayed up late talking, laughing, and sharing what has happened in our lives over the past year. It was a much needed respite from our busy lives- and we vowed to make this a yearly thing. {It may take us that long to coordinate our schedules again!}
Tomorrow I am going to share all about our cottage, and then later this week about all of the food and drinks we had. But, today I just want to share about all of the fun shops and small town charm there was to go around-in a town my whole life we’ve affectionately referred to as ‘Little Nashville’.
Shop til You Drop
I snuck out early in the morning just as the sun was rising to snap a few pictures and walk around before the town was full of visitors. It ended up being one of my favorite moments from the trip– taking a walk alone in the brisk air. The whole town smelled like kettle corn and people were just heading into their shops. {Now I have a fantasy of opening my own small shop and walking around in the early morning and eating endless amounts of kettle corn, but I digress…}
There are wineries and tasting rooms everywhere– down almost every street. Perfect for a girl’s trip or romantic siesta. Many with FREE tastings! This one was probably my favorite– and now I think I’ve found a new Rosé to buy for myself.
Gorgeous old houses filled to the brim with fun farmhouse finds and all sorts of treasures to be sifted through are peppered throughout.
Cottages and alleys full of gypsy junk, handmade artisan crafts, candies, fashion boutiques with unique clothing. ALL the things!
An endless amount of places to visit and fun things to see. And food- did I mention food?
You can stay right in town and walk everywhere. Which helps work off all of the food and drinks.
Midwest is Best
Everyone in town was ridiculously nice. We chatted with all of the shop owners about their products, asked for dining recommendations, joked about the crazy weather- and they were all the absolute friendliest people. I’m telling you- Midwest is best!
I used to venture to Brown County with my Mom as a little girl- and it’s even more fun with your girlfriends! They’ve really re-vamped a lot of the town- there are even more stores than I remember. But, it’s also still got some of my old favorites- restaurants and shops that have been there for as long as I can remember.
So, if the heavens open and you’re able to plan a little trip away with your friends- consider Brown County. You will not regret it!
Endless laughs and time spent with friends is never wasted. It may have poured rain the first day- but it didn’t ruin our fun! This was the PERFECT way to kick-off my Indiana Summer Road Trip series. {And thank you to my sweet, oldest besties for tagging along!}
Have you ever been to Brown County? What’s your favorite spot?
